The R3 mineral water bottling factory (Formally known as 18 Degrees Water Bottling Plant) in Nasau, Nadi was officially re-launched on 3 September 2022 by Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in a ceremony that marked a pivotal moment for local industry and employment. The relaunch reflects renewed momentum in Fiji’s manufacturing sector, with plans underway to expand operations and provide significant job opportunities for the local community.
The factory was recently acquired by Great Pacific Hotels Pte Ltd, a 100% Fijian-owned company known for its commitment to investing in Fiji’s tourism and commercial sectors. With this new venture into the bottled water industry, Great Pacific Hotels is set to diversify its portfolio while contributing meaningfully to national economic development.
Significant investments are expected in the near future, with plans for a multi-million-dollar upgrade of the factory’s machinery and processing systems. Modern bottling equipment is scheduled to be imported from Italy and other international suppliers, enabling the facility to meet both domestic and international demand with greater efficiency and quality. These upgrades aim to position 18 Degrees as one of Fiji’s most advanced mineral water production sites.
A key focus of the factory’s revival is the creation of sustainable employment. Once the planned expansion and upgrades are completed, the plant is projected to generate numerous job opportunities for Fijians across different skill levels. Roles will range from machine operators and logistics coordinators to technicians and quality control staff. In addition to direct employment, the facility’s operations are expected to create indirect opportunities through local suppliers, transport operators, and service providers.
Speaking at the launch, Prime Minister Bainimarama commended the initiative as a strong show of confidence in the Fijian economy. He emphasized the importance of such investments in improving livelihoods, supporting families, and uplifting entire communities. The reopening of the R3 factory demonstrates the government’s ongoing commitment to encouraging private sector development and broadening Fiji’s economic base.
With its high-quality natural mineral water sourced from the pristine environment of Nadi, the factory is poised to serve both the local and export markets. The long-term vision includes expanding global reach while upholding Fiji’s reputation for premium bottled water products.
The relaunch of the R3 water bottling factory marks not just the revival of a facility, but the beginning of a new chapter in Fiji’s industrial landscape—one that promises growth, resilience, and greater opportunities for the people of Fiji.
